Exercise 1

1. Create an Analysis map that reveals the assumption in this argument:

Hints

  • Drag the map onto the workspace, select it and change it to 'Analysis' form using the 'Change' section of the ribbon menu

  • Create a new claim box and situate this inside the existing green reason area. If it accidentally attaches as a separate reason then drag the claim box over into the first reason box alongside the main claim and delete the empty second box.

  • To work out what goes in the new claim box ask yourself: what key words appear in the existing reason (the main claim) and the position, but not in both?  The hidden assumption (the co-premise) must connect those two ideas.

2. Check your work against the model.
